Yoshi's Island is a stage confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. This time, it is based on the design of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (which is also used in Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi Touch & Go). It has a horizontal design, with two main platforms. The top one tilts during play. There is a ghost, called the Support Ghost, who appears and disappears at random, creating a temporary platform that can save recovering characters. The stage will also change between the four seasons during the match. This stage could be considered the "spiritual successor" to Yoshi's Island: Yoshi's Story from Melee, because they both have walls going to the bottom of the stage, they both have attackable Shy Guys that fly in with Food items and because of the Support Ghost's similarity to Randall the Cloud.

[edit] Songs in My Music

  • Obstacle Course
  • Ending (Yoshi's Story)
  • Yoshi's Island
  • Flower Field
  • Wildlands

Bolded songs must be unlocked

  • There are actually fifteen songs that can play on this stage. The five songs available in My Music are the ones heard during the spring and summer seasons. However, each song has two alternate arrangments; one for fall (autumn) and the other for winter. These use the same melody but are played with different instruments so it matches the setting. When the season changes, the song currently playing is cut off by a short jingle and the next composition of that song starts. For some reason, the ten alternative versions cannot be customized in My Music, nor can they be found in the Sound Test menu. Interestingly, if they were, Yoshi's Island would be the stage with the biggest selection of music in Brawl.

[edit] Seasons

When the match begins, the season that players start on is entirely random. The changes that the seasons make to the stage are merely aesthetic - they do not affect the gameplay in any way.

  • Spring
  • Scenery here distinctly resembles the pastel-drawn backgrounds of the Overworld stages in Yoshi's Island. Chain Chomps can be seen on both sides of the stage.
  • Summer
  • Flowers sprout everywhere with the coming of summer. They are designed much like the flowers Yoshi can collect to increase the overall score in his games.
  • Fall
  • Autumn colors take over and stationary Goonies appear, hovering in the sky with a two-frame animation.
  • Winter
  • Heavy snowfall is this season's main addition to the graphics. Like most weather effects in SSBB, the snow is not rendered in 3D. Pausing and angling the camera will reveal that it is only two-dimensional.

[edit] Trivia

  • While using Captain Olimar's Final Smash, End of Day, a drawing of a moon can be seen in the sky. This moon was the location of the battle against world 5 boss Raphael the Raven in Yoshi's Island.
  • This is the third stage in the series that has acquired the name "Yoshi's Island". Funnily enough, they have all been based off of different games.
