[edit] History

Originally a tag-team for PS2's Dead or Alive 2, the Gel Criminals have been practicing and competing with one another since 2001, and as a smash team since early 2002. They practiced largely in the amateur mainstream with local players, though they declared themselves an official competitve team in late 2005. The Gel Criminals had their competitive debut in the Connecticut College Gaming Club's Megascreen tournament on April 13th, 2007, claiming 1st place amongst 17 other teams.

Gorn3kk (Bowser) Sprucetengu (Dr. Mario)

[edit] The Crew

Gorn3kk and Sprucetengu are known amongst Conn. Colleges Intramural Smash League (ISL) as one of the most dangerous teams they've assembled, winning match after match with a curious and unorthodox style. Composed of two aggressive yet complimentary players, the Gel Criminals are a matchup of somewhat corresponding playstyles which produce spectacular results. While Gorn3kk is a player focused on mindgames, feints, and unpredictability, Sprucetengu displays a more belligerent and direct style, employing flawless timing and spacing with a remarkable ability to intercept and punish his opponents with unconventional combos. Notorious amongst the ISL for their uncanny ability to play off one another and perform "team combos", the two seem to spontaneously improvise devastating combinations on opponents by combining their attacks in an alternating sequence, often with an unpredictable, syncopated rhythm. Despite their ability to improvise, the duo also uses several "signature" combos, comically named like special moves from 16-bit fighting games. Those known include: "The Gel Cannon", "The Gelnado", "Leakfire" and "Shoop da woop". The Gel Criminals are also a notably "rowdy" duo, and have been known to intimidate other players with a discomfitting degree of intensity and peculiarity. For example, the team was nearly disqualified for a particularly extravagant victory dance after their semi-final victory in Conn. College's Megascreen tournament. The crew plans to enter and compete in other tournaments throughout New England throughout Summer 2007, and is rumored to be creating a combo video as part of their declaration as a competitive team.
